Palermo: street food and millenary heritage!

Palermo is the capital of Sicily and has been a cultural melting pot since the 6th century BC.

The city’s architectural heritage is a testimony to centuries of foreign dominations. Palermo is a safe and exciting place to visit.

The city was named “Italian Capital of Culture” of 2018 and is becoming a center of Italian tourism. There are many daily flights from Rome to Palermo, therefore we advise you choose Palermo to begin your private tour of Sicily.

Where to stay in Palermo?

We recommend that you select an accommodation within the old city center, in particular the neighborhoods near the Quattro Canti and Teatro Massimo Opera House.

The Teatro Massimo is the third largest opera house in Europe, and is featured in The Godfather III.

The old city districts are charming and pedestrian friendly.

We will help you choose the best hotel in Palermo according to your requirements.

What to do in Palermo?

Are you ready for what Palermo has to offer?

What and where to eat in Palermo?

There are many high-end restaurants in Palermo. However, we take pride in introducing you to the most authentically Sicilian dishes.

Taormina, the jewel of Sicily!

Taormina was built by the ancient Greeks on a fertile hill above the Ionian Sea.  It offers spectacular views on the bay of Naxos and Mt. Etna!

This beautiful village combines natural beauty and a rich artistic and archaeological heritage.

Since Taormina is not distant from Catania’s airport, and there are many daily flights from Catania to Rome, we advise that you choose Taormina as the last destination of your private tour of Sicily.

Where to stay in Taormina?

Checking into one of the best hotels in Taormina is a key feature of our private tours in Sicily!

What to do in Taormina?

You have many opportunities to spend your leisure time:

What and where to eat in Taormina?

There are many reputable restaurants in Taormina.

However, we suggest you stop for dinner at our favorite restaurant on the road to Castelmola. This restaurant serves delicious fresh seafood dishes, and also makes some of the best pizza in Sicily.

If you choose to eat outdoors, you will be charmed by some of the most beautiful views in Sicily. This location is an ideal place for a romantic date, especially if you plan to renew your vows.

Syracuse, a charming seaside white town!

Syracuse combines a rich cultural heritage, small town charm, beautiful scenery, and offers a great variety of activities.

Historically, Syracuse was the most important Greek Colony in Sicily.

The town is almost 2700 years old and it is one of the most beautiful UNESCO sites in Sicily.

It is worth noting that this is the best location from which to explore the South-East corner of the island during your private tour of Sicily.

Where to stay in Syracuse?

We highly recommend you choose accommodations in Ortigia, the old city center of Syracuse, Sicily. Ortigia is located on an island separated from the mainland by a narrow canal and is accessible by bridge.

If you stay on Ortigia, there are a variety of hotels located on the main promenade facing the sea.

There are many types of accommodations in Syracuse, and we will help you pick the one that best suits your requirements.

What to do in Syracuse?

What and where to eat in Syracuse?

Mount Etna: wineries and gorgeous landscapes!

Mt. Etna was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2013.

It is the highest active volcano in Europe (10.922 ft), but offers a wide range of activities to do at lower altitudes. The slopes of Mt. Etna are covered by many stunning wineries which produce some of the finest wines in the world.

Our ‘Mt. Etna wine tours’ are very safe and exciting, and will be planned according to your dynamism and passions. Depending on what you chose to do, you will be welcomed by reliable English speaking mountain guides and expert sommeliers.

What to do on Mount Etna?

If your desire is to explore the Etna volcano, you have the choice of going up the mountain in a four by four, all terrain vehicles, or you can make the trek by foot.

In both cases, you will get the opportunity to walk along the edge of an extinguished crater, visit lave caves, and walk on the remnants of previous lava flows.

What and where to eat on Mount Etna?

During your Mount Etna wine tour, we will stop for a honey and pistachio tasting. These products are some of the best the Mount Etna area has to offer.

For lunch, we will bring you to one of many Sicilian wineries on the slopes of Mount Etna whose vineyards are surrounded by beautiful and fascinating natural environments.

At the winery, an enologist-sommelier will show you the old cellars in which renowned Mount Etna wines are aged. After a visit of the cellars, you will enjoy a complete lunch serving the best Sicilian food and excellent wines.

Our Mount Etna tours combine striking volcanic landscapes, beautiful agricultural scenery, delicious food and produce, and wines that are unique in the world!

Caccamo: visit a medieval town and savor authentic Sicilian cuisine!

A day in Caccamo is an opportunity to visit a part of Sicily that is off the beaten track and still unknown to tourists.

The town’s medieval architecture and ancient narrow streets set a timeless atmosphere that is sure to leave a strong impression on you.

A trip to Caccamo also gives you the opportunity to enjoy authentic Sicilian cuisine during a memorable cooking class in Sicily.

What to do in Caccamo?

In Caccamo, a local guide will give you a tour of the Caccamo Castle. This impressive fortress is the largest of its kind in Sicily.

It was built by the Normans in the 12th century at the summit of a rocky peak. The castle offers breathtaking views extending on the Rosamarina Lake and as far as the Mediterranean Sea.

The Caccamo castle holds an important historical significance as it was never successfully conquered.

It is sure to make you feel like you travelled back into middle ages.

What and where to eat in Caccamo?

In Caccamo, we’ll invite you to come and meet a friendly local housewife named Maria, who offers traditional Sicilian cooking classes.

She will teach you the best authentically Sicilian cooking techniques and styles.

Maria will share with you the best methods of preparing traditional Sicilian food and will reveal some of her family’s secret recipes.

We believe Maria’s food will probably be the best you have during your entire private tour of Sicily.

Lunch at Maria’s includes endless dishes of fresh pasta, parmigiana, Norma sauce, famous Caccamo sausage, and many other Sicilian recipes, starters, and entrees.

We hope you are ready for the feast!

In addition to enjoying Maria’s Sicily cooking class, we will invite you to meet a local meat producer.

This is an opportunity for you to participate in the making of traditional Caccamo sausage.

Agrigento: the stunning Valley of the Temples!

The city of Agrigento lies on the site where once existed the ancient Greek city of Akragas, one of the most important cities of ‘Magna Graecia’, Greater Greece.

The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento is classified as a UNESCO site and is one of the best places to visit in Sicily!

What to do in Agrigento?

What and where to eat in Agrigento?

There are many high quality restaurants in Agrigento, and many offer wonderful views overlooking the Valley of the Temples.

Eating in Agrigento also offers the opportunity to try local specialties. One dish we recommend you order in Agrigento is the “maccu di favi”, a soup of dried fava beans.

If you have a sweet tooth, Agrigento is renowned for its almond based pastries.

The amazing surroundings of Palermo: Mt. Pellegrino and Mondello beach

Mount Pellegrino is the most famous mountain in Palermo! Goethe described it as “the most beautiful promontory in the world”.

Today Mount Pellegrino is a protected Nature Reserve.

However, it is most popular for being the location of Santa Rosalia, Palermo’s Patron Saint. It is said that Santa Rosalia retired to Mt. Pellegrino to live as a hermit in a cave in the 12th century.

According to legend, she is believed to have rescued the city from a plague in 1624, centuries after her death.

Every year, thousands of devotees and tourists visit the church consecrated in her honor. This church is built in the cave in which Santa Rosalia is believed to have lived.

The way to the church is a steeply ascending trail which takes you through the nature reserve.

During the Feast of Santa Rosalia, many pilgrims will make the trip from the city center to the top of the mountain barefoot.

A visit to the top of Mt. Pellegrino is also your chance to enjoy the stunning views the promontory offers over the city.

Mondello is a small fishing village located on the coast north of Palermo. It is just a short drive away from the city center.

The Gulf of Mondello is sure to enchant you. Its white sandy beach, turquoise sea, and wide U-shaped bay make it one of the best beaches in Sicily and one of the most popular places in all of Italy.

You can enjoy your time here relaxing on the beach or eat a traditional seafood lunch at one of the many restaurants on the seafront promenade.

What and where to eat in Mondello?

We will advise you one of the best restaurants located in the promenade of Mondello beach. You will enjoy a traditional lunch based on fresh fish while admiring the Mediterranean Sea!

The Godfather filming locations: on trail of Michael Corleone

If you are a fan of The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, “we are going to make you an offer you can’t refuse!’’

This part of the itinerary will take you to The Godfather filming locations in Sicily.

What to do in the Sicily Godfather Tour?

What to eat during the Sicily Godfather Tour?

In Savoca, we will stop for a break at bar Vitelli. This old bar is the location where Michael Corleone asked Appolonia’s father for permission to court her. This is your chance to enjoy a freshly pressed Sicilian orange juice, or a lemon granita, exactly where the Godfather himself sat.

Marsala: Sicilian wine on the "salt road"!

The area of Marsala is famous for its namesake fortified wine. It also offers interesting natural landscapes.

What to do in Marsala?

What and where to eat in Marsala?

You should not miss the opportunity to taste the famous ‘couscous’, an Arabic culinary specialty, now a great expression of Sicilian cuisine. It is hand-worked semolina seasoned with fresh fish caught in the Mediterranean Sea.

Segesta: heritage and outstanding landscapes!

The ancient Greek theater and the Doric temple of Segesta (5th century BC) are two of the most magnificently-sited Classical monuments in the world. Segesta is located at the top of a hill. You will be amazed by a wonderful view overlooking the unspoiled valley below.

According to the itinerary of your private tour of Sicily, you may combine the visit of the archaeological park of Segesta with the following:

Erice: a medieval village with a breathtaking view!

You will head up to a beautiful village ‘suspended in time’ at 750 meters (2200 feet) above sea level.

Erice boasts one of the most spectacular views in Sicily facing the Egadian Islands and the westernmost point of Sicily!

What to do in Erice?

You will walk with your local guide through the narrow, well-kept, cobblestone streets that lead to the Norman castle.

Then you will look out the terrace at the Pepoli towers that overlook Mt. Cofano and the gorgeous coastline to San Vito lo Capo.

Finally you will spend some time shopping before visiting the cathedral and crossing the ancient Trapani gate.

What and where to eat in Erice?

Cefalù: a charming seaside village!

Cefalù is a picturesque fishing village located on the northern coastline of Sicily, 70 km (43 miles) from Palermo.  It is certainly a ‘postcard-worthy’ Sicilian village!

What to do in Cefalù?

What and where to eat in Cefalù?

Catania: art and flavors in the "black town"!

Catania, the second largest city in Sicily, located on the slopes of Mount Etna, is completely constructed with lava stones. This is why it is also named “black town”.

What to do in Catania?

What and where to eat in Catania?

Ragusa and Modica: true adorned postcards!

Ragusa and Modica are two must see places in Sicily and also two amazing UNESCO sites. These cities are popular thanks to their unique architectural style, the Val di Noto Baroque, and also home to some of the best Sicilian food!

What to do in Ragusa and Modica?

What and where to eat in Ragusa and Modica?

Piazza Armerina: mosaics and Sicilian pottery!

Piazza Armerina is a charming small village in the heart of Sicily. The city is home to nice churches and ancient architecture. However, Piazza Armerina has become famous for its Archaeological Park in which you’ll find the remains of the ruins of ancient Villa Romana del Casale.

What to do in Piazza Armerina?

What and where to eat in Piazza Armerina?

The area of Piazza Armerina (province of Enna) is known for its meat and cheese production.

We highly recommend you try the traditional “maccaruni” pasta dish, with pork ragu and “piacentinu ennese”, a delicious Sicilian cheese.

We will reserve a table at the best restaurant in the heart of Piazza Armerina, right across from the cathedral.

Noto: the marvelous Baroque town!

The beautiful town of Noto is another great expression of the Sicilian Baroque architecture. The ancient town of Noto was virtually razed by the 1693 Sicilian earthquake. It was then decided to re-build the new town 5 miles south of the original location. The best architects of that time created a masterpiece! The layout utilized the sloping hillside for outstanding scenic effects. The town was dubbed the “Stone Garden” and is currently listed among UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

What to do in Noto?

A guided walking tour. Noto will surprise you with gorgeous buildings, stairways and churches from the 18th century.

The majestic cathedral and most of the buildings are made with yellow limestone. You will be impressed by the stunning balconies adorned with animals, funny faces, and mythological figures!

What and where to eat in Noto?

Monreale: the most beautiful cathedral in Sicily!

Monreale is a small village situated only a few miles from Palermo on the slopes of a rugged hill.

It overlooks the ‘Conca d’oro’, the fertile valley of Palermo with the shore of the Mediterranean in the near distance and the city of Palermo.

The main reason for visiting Monreale is to see the Cathedral built in the 12nd century, a must in your private tour of Sicily. Construction began in 1174 by William II, the Norman king of Sicily.

The Cathedral of Monreale is one of the finest examples of sacred architecture in Italy because of its refined Byzantine mosaics made with gold tesserae.

They represent scenes from the Old and New Testament. You will be amazed by the famous Christ Pantocrator.

It is an impressive huge mosaic and also a masterpiece of perspective illusion on the spherical wall behind the main altar.

Attached to the Cathedral you will see the Benedictine cloister.

It preserves the largest as well as the most impressive group of sculptures to survive from the period of Norman domination over Sicily.

The cloister has 228 small columns, each intricately carved with different decorations influenced by medieval art.

The Cathedral of Monreale and the Benedictine cloister are examples of a syncretism between Western, Islamic, and Byzantine cultures.

They both belong to the Arab-Norman itinerary and to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in Sicily.

Selinunte: archaeology, couscous, and olive oil!

Selinunte was founded in the 7th century BC. It was the most western Greek colony in Sicily.

What remains today of the ancient city (after its final defeat by Carthage), is the huge archaeological park covering more than 270 hectares.

What to do in Selinunte?

A Guided walking tour of Selinunte archaeological park.

This site is divided by the eastern hill, where you can admire the perfectly preserved temples of Athena and Hera, and the area of the Acropolis.
It is situated in a scenic area overlooking the sea and is home to the other important Greek ruins in Sicily such as the temple of Apollo and the Necropolis.

Selinunte is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Sicily.

It combines important archaeological remains and the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea!

What and where to eat in Selinunte?

We’ll visit a charming farm house that also happens to be an important archaeological site.

You’ll meet the owner who is an award winning producer of a fine Sicilian olive oil.

While walking through his olive grove (some trees are many centuries old), you will be amazed by the limestone quarries (‘Latomia’) used by the ancient Greeks to build the temples of Selinunte.

After a special olive oil tasting, you will enjoy a flavorful lunch based on several traditional Sicilian dishes including couscous, an Arabic culinary specialty, which is now a great expression of the Sicilian cuisine.

Madonie Park Villages: undiscovered gems in the heartland of Sicily!

Visiting these villages populated with authentic people is equivalent to taking a journey back to ancient Sicily.

Experience what it would be like to travel back in time and discover stunning medieval villages such as Geraci Siculo, Petralia Soprana, Gangi, Castelbuono and Pollina.

These villages which are abound with beautiful palaces, castles, and churches are situated in the picturesque landscapes of the Madonie Mountains.

During this part of the tour, you will get to travel along the same routes that are used for the Targa Florio, the world’s oldest sports car racing event.

If you’re interested, you can also visit the historic automobile museum which displays some of the most famous cars to have raced the Targa Florio.

Exploring the Madonie Park villages offers a chance to fully understand and embrace the heartland of Sicily.

What and where to eat in the villages of the Madonie park?

The Madonie region offers local and delicious traditional Sicilian foods.

Specialties include Panettone, cake-like bread made in Castelbuono, excellent local meats and cheeses, delicious honey, and sweet ‘manna’ extracted from ash trees.

Private boat tours: along the astonishing Sicilian coastline!

The Sicilian coastline stretches for than more than 1000 miles, and is comprised of coves, caves, pristine beaches, and crystal clear waters.

However, many of these beautiful locations are not accessible by land.

As part of an international team, it was quite brainless to select Sicily for our team building.

The island is a melting polt of cultures and so it is our team with its members coming from all over the world. We were pointed to Best Things to Do in Sicily for our event and couldn’t be happier with the result.

Giancarmine and his team delivered a flawless experience. His knowledge, patient and attention to details has made our trip one for the books.
